The NRA has sent council a submission as follows
As local community members who deeply value the Northern Beaches’ iconic coastal lifestyle, we are writing to formally provide feedback on the Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030.
We commend Council on developing a comprehensive framework that turns strategic commitments into clear, actionable inclusion measures.
However, we wish to strongly advocate for the urgent prioritisation
of Newport Ocean Pool (Newport Rockpool) under this new four-year cycle.
While our rockpools are prized natural and recreational landmarks, the
Newport pool precinct currently highlights the uneven nature of disability
inclusion across our LGA. For community members with physical, sensory, or mobility restrictions, accessing and enjoying this asset presents significant systemic barriers. Crucially, the current state of neglect means that accessing the pool is actually exceptionally difficult and hazardous for able bodied people as well, not just those living with a disability. Upgrading this precinct is an issue of broad community safety that will inherently benefit every single user.
We request that Council explicitly incorporates the modernisation and
accessibility overhaul of the Newport Ocean Pool precinct into the final
rollout of the DIAP, specifically targeting the following draft focus areas and
actions:
