The following was announced by the Mayor Michael Regan this week.

The Streets as Shared Spaces Category 1 application for ‘Beaches Eat.Play.Stay’ seeks to improve and activate three town centres and one recreational area in the Northern Beaches Council Local Government Area. Four locations are covered by this program of works:

1. Project A: The Strand, Dee Why

2. Project B: Robertson Road, Newport

3. Project C: Waratah Street, Mona Vale

4. Project D: Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights

Project B – Robertson Road, Newport

This proposal seeks to build on the local character and improve the attractiveness of Newport by activating the section of Robertson Road between Foamcrest Avenue and Barrenjoey Road. This is expected to be for one day per month.

(This proposal is due to go to the Traffic Committee for discussion on 6 October 2020).

From the point of view of the NRA we welcome this initiative as it puts into place the aims of the Newport Masterplan for activating the centre of Newport and confirms that the council has been listening following our recent dialogue with them regarding these matters.
