Current Update Nov 2016

The Newport Demand Management Strategy survey and review period conducted by council ended on the 7th November with over 250 residents and local businesses making submissions. Council will now develop a strategy therefrom and present it a council meeting for approval to place on exhibition, all of which will hopefully happen early in the New Year.

Since the Newport Arms became ‘The Newport’ and had a great upgrade the hotel has become very popular. This popularity has caused some major parking issues especially for the Kalinya Street businesses.

Northern Beaches Council has made some minor changes to provide additional short term parking spaces to help out the businesses at that location and is now entering into a review and survey which the residents are being asked to participate in. Council has also engaged traffic consultants who have done a week long/day long survey (results yet to be received).

One of our members, Joe Saleh who runs the Community Pharmacy in Kalinya St outlines the issues as follows;

“One of the crucial goals of our campaign was to make sure there are adequate number of 15 minute car spaces. There are 59 spots in the Kalinya St carpark and we believe that a min of 12 spaces dedicated to this time restriction are necessary but of course leave your own feedback in regards to other changes you feel need to be made for the benefit of the entire community.
Thank you again for your time and support. We look forward to seeing further improvement into the parking situation allowing you to access the vital services at the Kalinya St shops.”
